Cremation Services

Dignified cremation services with full support throughout the process. We work with all Dublin crematoriums.

Our cremation service

Cremation has become an increasingly popular choice in Ireland. We provide complete cremation services with the same care, dignity, and professionalism as any burial arrangement.

What cremation involves

Cremation is a process where the body is respectfully placed in a cremator (a specialized chamber) at very high temperatures. After the process, the ashes (known as cremated remains) are carefully collected and placed in a temporary container or an urn of your choice.

The ashes can then be:

  • Kept by the family
  • Scattered in a meaningful location
  • Buried in a cemetery plot or memorial garden
  • Interred in a columbarium (a structure designed to hold urns)

Crematoriums we work with

We arrange cremations at:

  • Glasnevin Crematorium - Dublin's first and most established crematorium
  • Dardistown Crematorium
  • Newlands Cross Crematorium - Modern facilities in West Dublin
  • Mount Jerome Crematorium - Located in Harold's Cross

All four crematoriums have chapel facilities where a service can be held before the cremation. Alternatively, you can hold a service at a church or venue of your choice, followed by committal at the crematorium.

Types of cremation service

You have several options:

  • Service at the crematorium: A ceremony in the crematorium chapel, lasting approximately 20 minutes, followed by committal
  • Church service with cremation to follow: A full funeral service at church, then a shorter committal at the crematorium
  • Direct cremation: A simple cremation without a preceding ceremony, with a memorial service held later if desired
  • Attended direct cremation: Similar to direct cremation, but with close family present at the committal

What's included in our cremation service

Our service includes:

  • Guidance on all cremation options
  • Coordination with the crematorium
  • All necessary paperwork (including cremation certificates and forms)
  • Collection and care of your loved one
  • A suitable coffin for cremation
  • Transportation to the crematorium
  • Attendance at the service
  • Collection and return of the ashes to you, or arrangement for scattering/burial

Religious and non-religious services

Cremation services can be religious or non-religious, depending on your preference. Most Christian denominations now accept cremation, though some traditions still prefer burial. If you're unsure, we can discuss this sensitively with you.

For non-religious families, we can arrange a humanist or civil celebrant to conduct a meaningful ceremony that celebrates life without religious content.

Choosing an urn

After cremation, the ashes are returned in a simple temporary container. Many families choose to transfer them into an urn. We offer a selection of urns, or you can source your own.

Urns come in various materials including:

  • Biodegradable urns (if you're planning to scatter or bury in a natural setting)
  • Wooden urns (traditional and elegant)
  • Metal or ceramic urns (durable for long-term keeping)
  • Small keepsake urns (to share ashes among family members)

Who it's for

Cremation is chosen by families for many reasons:

  • Personal preference of the deceased
  • Environmental considerations
  • Practical reasons (e.g., no family burial plot available)
  • Cultural or religious reasons
  • Flexibility in timing (memorial service can be held later)
  • Portability of ashes if family members live abroad

Understanding the costs

Cremation is often less expensive than burial, primarily because you don't need to purchase a burial plot. However, costs vary depending on:

  • Our professional services: Coordination, care, and funeral director's time
  • The coffin: Must meet crematorium requirements (usually simpler than burial coffins)
  • Crematorium fee: Charged directly by the crematorium (currently around €750-€950)
  • Urn: If you choose one (optional)
  • Additional services: Church service, flowers, catering, etc.

We'll provide a full breakdown of costs before you make any decisions.

After the cremation

The ashes are usually ready for collection after approximately 7 days. We'll contact you when they're ready, and you can collect them from us.
